Since April 1st we moved to a new, more modern, 6-story building located in the Old City, close to the main tourist attractions of the city. Set in a renovated historical building, Viajero Hostel offers accommodation a 10-minute walk from the Rambla and the Atlantic Ocean. It features free Wi-Fi in public areas and an inner patio.
Rooms at the Viajero Hostel are equipped with air conditioning and all rooms include private bathrooms, others have shared facilities.
Drinks, cocktails and snacks are served at the hostel’s bar. Thanks to its central location, many restaurants and cafés can be found in the surrounding area.

Assymetrical Opportunity!
It's a new hostel in a beautiful, restored Beaux Arts historic building on a pedestrian street.. There are quiet, well lit, modern offices to work while you travel (the tall ceilings make it so easy!) . The rooms are ridiculously spacious, with balcony, large bathroom, and the beds are super private like a better version of those Japanese Capsule hotel rooms (with privacy curtains, intl electric plug, and a small shelf for your devices. The tall ceilings and large windows make for comfortable sleeping. The main room with integrated kitchen has the feeling of a cool loft in the city. On top of all of that there is a superb terrace with amazing 360 views of the sea, the old city and the port. I think I can see every single landmark in Montevideo from up here. Book ahead!

Great location and welcoming staff. The breakfast was lovely - I had this twice and I chose the eggs on toast with tomatoes and onion and it came with fruit, cereal and juice. Plenty of food for the price! I stayed in a shared room and my bed was comfy and they had privacy curtains. Plenty of space in the lockers under the beds (bring your own padlock) and a good sized bathroom. There’s a WhatsApp group which everyone is invited to to keep up to date on events that may be happening. There are also small rooms to work in and a good sized common area.

Great location to be walking distance to the square and old city. Friendly staff - particularly appreciated their help as I had an issue tracking down a lost item on the Buquebus.. Not as clean as other El Viajero locations - I found an old cigarette butt on the floor by my bedside table, but luckily the room didn’t smell of smoke.
Great place to stay for exploring Montevideo
Good location to walk to everything you might need in Montevideo. They also rent bikes for exploring the city and esplanade. Our private room had its own bathroom and air conditioning, and the bed was very comfortable. They also made sure music was turned down at a good time so you could sleep easily.. The area is very quiet at night with a lot of people sleeping on the streets. Might be sensible for solo travellers in particular to take a taxi home late at night.

The location was ok. The staff was great.. The room was in front of the reception so it was very noisy and there was music from very early in the morning and people ringing the bell during the night. Otherwise ok.
